Terms Used Description
Box In wood turning, any item with a sealed lid, is usually called a box
Burl This occurs when a tree has sustained damage at some point, and the tree reacts by building a wound cover over the damage. These are sort after as the grain is intense and unique for each burl
Damage/Seconds If we are not completely happy with a finished item, we may still save the item and offer it at a reduced price. These items are not refundable.
Deep Height Bowl 41% or more of diameter
Double cut For PS & CS Wooden crafts, these are added features the woodturner add to the finished item. The exterior of the bowl will have two or more changes to the shape. These are added to enhance an item, or forced due to the timber being used
Embellishments For PS & CS Wooden crafts, these are added features the woodturner add to the finished item. These can the blacken lines, etching, beading etc/td>
Large Bowl 190mm and over sized diameter
Live edge Some bark is still visible, bowl shape allows the natural contour of the live edge
Medium Bowl 130mm to 180mm outside diameter
Natural edge Bark has been removed, however the bowl shape follows the contour of the original tree
Resin in-lay We at times use resin to hold an item together or to enhance the appearance of an item. Wherever possible we try not to use resin, as we would rather leave the timber in its natural form
Rustic Range The Rustic Range is made from recycled timber. You may see evidence from the timbers previous life. Rust marks from old nails, nail or screw holes, weather marks etc. We leave these in the product as it shows some of the history of the timber and adds character to the finished item.
Shallow Height Bowl Less than 25% of diameter
Small Bowl 40mm to 125mm outside diameter
Spalting this is coursed by a natural fungus found in logs/timber that has been felled for a period of time. It is normally seen as black staining in the timber
Standard Height Bowl 26-40% of diameter
Wheeled Toys Not only do we have cars and truck, but also animals like crocodiles, elephants etc
Winged bowl This is where a limb or truck of a tree is used that is wider than the diameter. The aim is to have a bowl the width extended out past the diameter of the bowl itself.
WOOD ART Our Wood Art range uses the natural features in the timber to show off the raw beauty of the item. This could be cross grains, holes from unusual growth or damage. In some items we may use a resin to help enhance the character. Others may display the natural faults.
